Multi-Tasking CNC Turning Center effectively fuses technology, productivity and value
Florence, Kentucky, October 25, 2011 – The Mazak QUICK TURN NEXUS 250 MSY is a Multi-Tasking CNC Turning Center that brings amazing technology, productivity and value to job shops of all sizes. Those who attended T3 – Tomorrow's Technology Today, a Discover Mazak 2011 event, were able to experience, first hand, the uncompromised turning and milling performance of this versatile Multi-Tasking machine.
The QUICK TURN NEXUS 250 MSY's headstock features a 10" main chuck, mounted on a 35 hp (26 kW), 4,000-rpm integrated spindle motor for heavy-duty metal removal. The spindle is also used as a C-axis, capable of being indexed in 0.0001° increments to accurately position parts for square facing and slotting cuts and precisely drilled holes. The C-axis spindle is a full-function CNC controlled axis for milling.
The turning center also features a 15 hp, 6,000-rpm second spindle, with 6" chuck, for high speed, high accuracy machining of small diameter workpieces. Additionally, the QUICK TURN NEXUS 250 MSY utilizes a 12-position drum turret and 7.5 hp (5.5 kW), 4,500-rpm rotary tool spindle for milling, drilling, and tapping operations, allowing many processes to be completed in a single machine cycle.
The machine also features an NC servo-driven tailstock to enable automated processes. The tailstock is fully programmable, driving the W-axis on its own AC servomotor and ball screw. Through the part program, the tailstock will retract to a known position and its center makes contact with the part with consistent holding pressure. Further, because of its positive independent drive system, the tailstock can drill holes on a shaft centerline, which adds versatility to the jobs it can process.
Another standard device is the beneficial Tool Eye, an automatic tool-presetting system. By bringing the tool tip into contact with the Tool Eye, offset of tool nose position, tool measurement, and data registration are done automatically, ensuring accuracy and reducing setup time. The Tool Eye also can be programmed to monitor tool wear on a periodic basis.
The sixth-generation MAZATROL MATRIX NEXUS CNC simplifies multi-tasking metalworking operations on the QUICK TURN NEXUS 250 MSY. It offers a 12" (305 mm) LCD color display and the familiar QWERTY keyboard. A pointing device, acting like a mouse, and USB port for downloading programs are also at the operator's fingertips.
Conversational part programming can be accomplished in MAZATROL language while the machine is cutting another part, or off-line in a CAD/CAM system. Once imported into MAZATROL MATRIX, a realistic 3D cycle simulation verifies the machining cycle and checks for machine interferences, greatly reducing the need for test cuts.
A variety of automation strategies can be integrated with the QUICK TURN NEXUS 250 MSY, from an automatic bar feeder to full robotic integration of either pedestal-mount or overhead-mount robot arms, driving required labor costs down and productivity up.
