Florence, Kentucky, November 13, 2012 – Manufacturing for the motorsports industry requires consistency, precision, speed and performance gained from advanced machine tool technology. At the 2012 Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show, taking place Nov. 29 – Dec. 1 in Orlando, Fla., Mazak will demonstrate how its innovative manufacturing solutions can keep motorsports manufacturing shops out in front and ahead of the competition.
PRI attendees who visit Mazak booth 4169 will experience the advanced technology of Mazak’s VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS COMPACT vertical machining center, QUICK TURN NEXUS 200-II MY turning center as well as the VARIAXIS j-500 and INTEGREX i-200 Multi-Tasking machines.
While each of these Mazak machines serves a different application purpose, they all offer consistency in precision, speed and performance throughout the part-production process, as well as the versatility to quickly adapt vehicle components to the ever-changing racing track conditions and racing industry requirements. In fact, these are the very reasons Penske Racing uses Mazak machines to produce various critical racecar components, including cylinder heads, engine blocks, intake manifolds and key suspension parts. In fact, Penske maintains “the team couldn’t do what it does on the racetrack without Mazak machine tool technology.”
Ideal for processing mid-size complex racing parts, the Mazak INTEGREX i-200 Multi-Tasking machine will be showcased at the 2012 PRI Show in Mazak booth 4169. VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS COMPACT
The Mazak VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS COMPACT, available in 3- and 5-axis versions, brings unbeatable performance to the production of small, complex racing components. The small-footprint, high-speed vertical machining center provides absolute precision and superior surface finishes when cutting through tough materials, such as stainless steel, Inconel and titanium. The machine’s power and versatility come from a robust, high-torque 25 hp, 12,000-rpm CAT 40 spindle and axis travels of 19.69” in X, 16.93” in Y and 20.08” in Z. Plus, the 5-axis machine features the new MATRIX 2 CNC control that significantly shortens part-production times. QUICK TURN NEXUS 200-II MY
The Mazak QUICK TURN NEXUS 200-II MY brings speed, power and versatility to the production of larger shaft-type racing parts. The CNC turning center’s headstock features an 8” chuck mounted on a 35 hp, 5,000-rpm integrated motor main turning spindle for heavy-duty metal removal. The spindle is also used as a C-axis, capable of being indexed at 0.0001-degree increments to accurately position the part for square facing and slotting cuts and precisely drilled holes. The C-axis spindle is also a full-function CNC controlled axis for milling. Additionally, the machine utilizes a 12-position drum turret and 7.5 hp, 4,500-rpm rotary tool spindle for milling, drilling and tapping operations – allowing many processes to be completed in a single machine cycle. VARIAXIS j-500
The Mazak VARIAXIS j-500 is a high-accuracy, multiple-surface Multi-Tasking solution that is ideal for processing complex parts, such as engine, chassis and suspension components. It offers simultaneous 4-axis capabilities and A-axis indexing, as well as efficiently incorporates all processes from raw material input through final machining in a single setup. The VARIAXIS j-500 employs a 15 hp, 40-taper spindle with a maximum speed of 12,000 rpm. For high-precision C-axis contouring, the spindle indexes in 0.0001-degree increments. Ample axes travels of 21.7” in Y, 13.78” in X and 20.1” in Z allow the VARIAXIS j-500 to process a variety of part sizes and shapes. Furthermore, the machine’s three linear axes attain high-speed rapid traverse rates of 1,181 ipm. INTEGREX i-200
Ideal for processing mid-size complex racing parts, the Mazak INTEGREX i-200 accurately and efficiently performs milling and turning operations in a single setup, enabling racing shops to achieve more productivity with fewer machines. The Multi-Tasking machine fits into most facilities with its space-saving footprint of 157.1” x 100.2”. It employs an 8” chuck mounted on a 30 hp, 5,000-rpm turning spindle that can tackle a wide range of applications from heavy-duty machining at low speeds to high-speed cutting of aluminum and other nonferrous materials. The machine’s milling spindle provides 30 hp, 12,000 rpm and a rotating B-axis range of -30 degrees to +240 degrees. A 36-tool (72-tool optional) magazine allows for fast tool changes and provides ample tooling for continuous part processing.
