Mazak Shows New High-Speed Version VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS 700D-II at T3

HS machine features powerful, faster spindle for higher productivity

Florence, Kentucky, October 25, 2011 – Mazak's VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS 700D-II HS Vertical Machining Center made its debut at T3 – Tomorrow's Technology Today, a Discover Mazak 2011 event. The machine is a high-speed version and features a 50-taper spindle and one with an increased speed, especially effective for finish machining big dies and molds.

To maximize efficiency in high speed machining, Mazak equipped the VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS 700D-II HS with the productive and unique combination of a 50-taper spindle together with a 10,000-rpm maximum speed capability. The 40 hp (30 kW) spindle generates a maximum torque of 223 ft-lbs. (302 Nm). Additionally, the machine's spindle and motor housing, as well as its ballscrew cores, are temperature controlled to ensure stable machining accuracy over extended periods of high-speed operation.

Mazak designed the VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS 700D-II HS with a large table that measures 68.5" x 27.6" (1,740 mm x 700 mm) with a maximum part weight capacity of 4,409 lbs. (2,000 kg). The table, in conjunction with X, Y and Z-axis strokes of 60.2" (1,530 mm), 27.6" (700 mm) and 25.6" (650 mm), expands the machining envelope for larger workpieces. For reducing non-cut times, the machine rapid traverses at a rate of 1,181 ipm (30 m/min), features a quick tool-to-tool change time of just 2.0 seconds with a 24-tool standard magazine (40-tool magazine optional).

Machine vibration caused by rapid axis acceleration/deceleration can considerably affect machining accuracy and machining time. The VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS 700D-II HS has Active Vibration Control, which reduces vibration for high-accuracy motions in all axes while reducing machining time. Since this function lessens tool vibration, high-quality machined surface finishes are achieved and excessive tool nose wear is eliminated.

The VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS 700D-II HS was also designed for reliability along with ease of maintenance and operation. Table access is a short 13" (330.2 mm) reach from the front cover and the front door is 70.8" (1,798.3 mm) wide for easy set up and loading. The overhead cover retracts for convenient loading of heavier parts by use of a crane. All lubrication inlets, air valves and other maintenance items are located on a single panel for operator convenience.
