Mazak INTEGREX e-670H II Provides Full Simultaneous 5-Axis Machining

Multi-Tasking machine processes large, complex shaft work in single-setups

Florence, Kentucky, October 25, 2011 – T3 – Tomorrow's Technology Today, a Discover Mazak 2011 event, featured the INTEGREX e-670H II, a high productivity solution for processing large, complex shaft-type components. The machine offers full simultaneous 5-axis machining, allowing parts with tapered holes, blisks and spiral bevel gears to be machined in one setup.

With full simultaneous 5-axis capability, the INTEGREX e-670H II is a Level 4 machine in Mazak's Five Levels of Multi-Tasking, which were developed as an effective way for manufacturers to determine the best multi-tasking technology for meeting their specific application and process needs.

Level 1 machines in the Five Levels of Multi-Tasking typically offer a single turning spindle and drum-style turret with rotating tool capability for processing minimally complex workpieces. Level 2 machines add Y-axis functionality for off-center operations and Done-In-One machining together with either a twin spindle and milling turret or twin spindle/twin turret machine configuration. Level 3 Multi-Tasking machines feature independent milling spindle headstocks with B-axis indexing, as well as Y-axis travels and tool storage magazines. Level 4 machines emphasize automation and processing large or highly complex workpieces using full, simultaneous 5-axis machining. Level 5 is the addition of specialized machining tasks, such as gear cutting, honing and grinding, that transform Level 4 machines into Level 5 Ultra-Tasking machines that process even the most demanding and complex parts complete in single setups.

For efficient 5-axis machining, the INTEGREX e-670H II includes a powerful 1,600 rpm, 60 hp (45 kW) spindle for turning and 360° C-axis control. It also has a strong 50 hp (37 kW), 10,000 rpm integral motor milling spindle that rotates 240° in the B-axis and allows for B-axis turning capability. A standard 80-tool magazine for storage and retrieval of turning, milling, drilling, and tapping tools further supports the machine's multi-tasking processes, and its fast automatic tool changer helps reduce non-cut times.

The INTEGREX e-670H-II offers a maximum machining diameter of 42.13" (1,070 mm) and a Y-axis stroke of 26.37" (670 mm) for accommodating large-diameter parts with maximum weights of up to 15,430 lbs (7,000 kg). To increase long, shaft-type part holding accuracy and rigidity, Mazak equipped the machine with a heavy-duty NC tailstock that provides easy setup as well.

Mazak's MX Hybrid Roller Guide System is integrated into the INTEGREX e-670H II to deliver levels of durability and reliability that result in long-term accuracy. The Mazak MX Hybrid Roller Guide System increases vibration dampening to extend tool life, handles higher load capacities, accelerates and decelerates quicker to shorten cycle times, consumes less oil for "Greener" operations, and lasts longer with less required maintenance.
