Machine features the industry's largest integral motor/headstock with 7.2" bore
Florence, Kentucky, October 25, 2011 – Mazak displayed the HYPER QUADREX 450M two-turret turning center at T3 – Tomorrow's Technology Today, a Discover Mazak 2011 event. To maximize productivity in large part machining, Mazak equipped the machine with the industry's largest integral motor/headstock that features a 7.2" (182.8 mm) spindle bore.
In addition to its large bore size, the HYPER QUADREX 450M accommodates parts to a maximum diameter of 22.83" (579.8 mm) and provides a maximum swing of 33.26" (844.8). Manufactured at Mazak's production facility in Florence, Kentucky, the HYPER QUADREX 450M offers the greatest value to manufacturers producing large-diameter shafts and pipes for industries such as energy, off-road vehicles and construction equipment.
To facilitate heavy material removal rates, the HYPER QUADREX 450M's main spindle provides 50 hp (37 kW), 1,748 ft-lbs. of torque and a maximum speed of 2,000 rpm. An MT5 Built-In TS Quill integrates the center shaft and tailstock to increase machine rigidity and further support extended periods of heavy cutting. The machine's front chuck diameter options are 18" (457.2 mm) and 21" (533.4 mm), and a rear 12" optional (304.8 mm) chuck can be added as well for additional long shaft work support.
In the interest of maximizing machine efficiency, the HYPER QUADREX 450M's upper and lower turrets can work in tandem to provide simultaneous turning. Both turrets offer a full rotation indexing time of just 0.8 seconds, with the 12-tool upper turret providing one-position indexing of 0.25 seconds and the 8-tool lower turret achieving one-position indexing of 0.4 seconds. Additionally, the upper turret contains a 10 hp milling motor with a maximum torque of 70 ft-lbs and top speed of 6,000 rpm.
