Mazak Demos High-Production Capability of VCN 700D/50-II at DISCOVER 2013

Vertical machining center paired with two-pallet changer boosts production

FLORENCE, Ky., Oct. 8, 2013 – At DISCOVER 2013, Mazak demonstrated its VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS 700D/50-II high-value, high-performance vertical machining center coupled with an optional two-pallet changer inside its North American Manufacturing Plant. The added pallet-changing capability significantly reduces part cycle times and machine non-cut times for achieving even higher production levels.

With the VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS 700D/50-II and automatic two-pallet changer, operators can load, unload and inspect parts on one pallet while the machine continues to work on parts fixtured on the other pallet. When one pallet of work is completed, change out time between the two pallets is a quick 22 seconds. Each pallet measures 27.56” (700 mm) x 68.50” (1740 mm) and, when evenly loaded, can accommodate parts up to 4,409 pounds (2000 kg). A two-pallet changer shutter is mounted between the machine and the 2-pallet changer to block coolant as well as keep chips from scattering.

With or without the two-pallet changer, the VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS 700D/50-II provides high value for shops of all sizes. It employs a powerful 6,000-rpm, 30-hp CAT 50-taper spindle as well as provides generous X, Y and Z-axis travels of 60.2” x 27.6” x 25.6” for effectively handling larger workpieces. It also features a quick tool-to-tool change time of 1.5 seconds with a magazine tool storage capacity of up to 40 tools.

The VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS 700D/50-II incorporates Mazak’s MX Hybrid Roller Guide System to deliver levels of durability and reliability that result in long-term accuracy. The innovative way system increases vibration dampening, extends tool life, handles higher load capacities and eliminates tramp oil in the coolant by utilizing a greener grease-based lubrication system.

Equipped with the MATRIX NEXUS 2 CNC control, the machine provides the option for either conversational or EIA/ISO programming. The control increases versatility and provides user-friendly operation. It also includes Mazak’s Intelligent Machine software functions that streamline machine set up and optimize machine performance as well as preventive maintenance procedures.
