Team Penske extends its record to 17 poles won at Indianapolis
Florence, Kentucky May 21, 2012 - Mazak Corporation, a Penske Racing technical sponsor, congratulates Ryan Briscoe and other Team Penske drivers on their winning performances at the qualifying rounds for this year's Indianapolis 500. Briscoe won the pole position for the upcoming 96th running of the Indy 500, while fellow team members Will Power and Helio Castroneves secured strategic starting positions in the second row.
Briscoe recorded a four-lap average of 226.484 mph in the No. 2 IZOD Team Penske Dallara/Chevrolet for his first Indy 500 pole and 13th of his IZOD IndyCar Series career. It also extended Team Penske's record to 17 poles won at Indianapolis.
Team member Will Power will start fifth after posting a four-lap average speed of 225.422 mph in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Dallara/Chevrolet. And joining him at the second row is three-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves who will start sixth after a four-lap run of 225.172 mph in the No. 3 Shell V-Power Pennzoil Ultra Team Penske Dallara/Chevrolet.
Penske Racing uses Mazak machines to manufacture various critical car components and maintains that "the team couldn't do what it does on the racetrack without Mazak machine tool technology."
