Mazak Canada Announces New 'Lunch and Learn' Series

Free educational sessions explore complementary process-optimizing technologies for Mazak machines

ONTARIO, Canada, Jan. 29, 2013 – In collaboration with several of it supplier partners, Mazak Corporation Canada is hosting new “Discover More Technology Lunch and Learn Sessions” at its Technology Centre in Cambridge, Ontario. The first session, taking place on March 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET, will involve Sandvik Coromant and the use of its Silent Tools on the latest Mazak machines.

According to Ray Buxton, general manager of Mazak Corporation Canada Headquarters and Technology Centre, Mazak is committed to providing its customers with comprehensive manufacturing solutions by partnering with leading cutting tool, work holding and automation companies. “The objective of our new lunch and learn sessions is to demonstrate process optimization and explore complementary technologies for Mazak equipment,” he said.

During the first session, Sandvik Coromant will demonstrate how its Silent Tools can improve productivity and silence vibrations on a Mazak SLANT TURN NEXUS 600 Turning Center with a steady rest as it cuts an oilfield-style component. Typically in metal cutting, long-reach tools can cause extreme vibrations, resulting in longer cycle times and increased tool breakage. As such, Silent Tools have a unique dampener built inside the tool body to counter such vibrations.

The first part of the demonstration will involve a steel non-dampened bar to illustrate the vibrations that commonly occur during the metal cutting process. In the second phase of the demonstration, Sandvik Coromant will apply its Silent Tool technology and showcase two key benefits: productivity gains and process stabilization.

Additionally, the Mazak HORIZONTAL CENTER NEXUS 5000 Horizontal Machining Center will perform a rotating tool demonstration using Silent Tool technology.
