Mazak and VIP Member Sandvik Coromant Host New Productive Tooling Solutions Seminar

Florence, Kentucky, November 22, 2010 – Education plays a vital role in maintaining a competitive edge in today’s global market. Manufacturers with a clear understanding of the latest in innovative products and process greatly enhance their potential for success. As one of its key missions, Mazak’s VIP program creates and executes training events and seminars, bringing together experts from complementary equipment producers to offer content that adds to your expertise. On November 10, Mazak and VIP member Sandvik Coromant partnered to present the New Productive Tooling Solutions seminar at our National Technology Center in Florence, Kentucky. This event allowed manufacturers to benefit directly from the expertise and insight of two of the industry’s leading companies.

Drawing approximately 70 manufacturers from throughout the Midwest, the New Productive Tooling Solutions seminar covered a wide range of topics, including new innovations in insert geometries, threading, Multi-Tasking and insert wear, along with a special presentation of Sandvik Coromant’s model of Manufacturing Economics. Chuck Birkle, Vice President at Mazak, delivered the day’s opening address, focusing on current trends that provide opportunity to American manufacturers and explaining the structure and goals of Mazak’s VIP program.

“Mazak has long worked with Sandvik Coromant in a wide variety of ways,” said Mr. Birkle. “We use Sandvik Coromant tooling here at our production plant in Florence, Kentucky, where we produce over 100 machine models. In Japan, we equip our INTEGREX machines with Coromant Capto interfaces. Likewise, Sandvik Coromant uses Mazak machines at the majority of its Productivity Centers across the United States. Now, through the VIP program, we are working in even greater collaboration, to continuously improves the solutions provided to American manufacturers.”

Mazak’s network of Regional Technology Centers provide ideal venues for these types of events, as they offer the capacity to host large numbers of manufacturers and allow for demonstrations on the latest in machine tool technology. Additionally, Mazak applications engineers are always on hand to answer questions and explain new innovations.

Training sessions at the New Productive Tooling Solutions Seminar covered topics both large and small, from evaluating cost justification for new equipment to implementing new geometries to maximize chip control and productivity. Attendees found the seminar to be of high value and plan to implement some of the information shared by Mazak and Sandvik Coromant.

“This is the second event of this nature that I’ve attended at Mazak and they both have been very beneficial to me,” said Guy Brooks, programmer at Federal Equipment Company, a manufacturer of ship components for the Navy. “Some of the milling concepts developed by Sandvik Coromant have really helped our productivity. Today, after learning about some of the newer threading products and techniques, I think we’ll be able to get some gains in that area as well.”

Mazak will continue to work with VIP partners to develop additional seminars at Regional Technology Centers across the United States. To see a schedule of upcoming events, please visit Upcoming Events.
