Mazak Demos High Throughput of HYPER QUADREX 250 MSY at DISCOVER 2013

Twin-spindle, twin turret machine offers unsurpassed productivity and versatility

FLORENCE, Ky., Oct. 8, 2013 – Mazak showcased the highly productive twin-spindle, twin-turret configuration of the HYPER QUADREX 250 MSY at DISCOVER 2013. The Multi-Tasking turning center delivers fast cycle times and high efficiencies thanks to its advanced design. Manufacturers gain unequaled part-processing opportunities and throughput with the machine, including enhanced Done-In-One® capabilities where it can complete machining – from raw material to finished part – in single machine setups.

The twin turning spindles on the HYPER QUADREX 250 MSY can work together or separately. This allows a single part to be machined on all surfaces through a coordinated “hand-off” between spindles, or two different parts can be machined simultaneously on one machine.

The machine’s twin turrets can also work independently or together. With that capability, the HYPER QUADREX 250 MSY can simultaneously machine two different features on a workpiece or follow a balanced machining strategy where two tools work together on the same workpiece feature. In cases where the part configuration permits, balanced machining can potentially remove up to 25 percent of the cycle time.

With large diameter bearings for support and rigidity, the 4,000-rpm, 35-hp main spindle on the HYPER QUADREX 250 MSY features a 10” chuck and 3.58” spindle bore for handling bar stock up to 3.2” diameter, while the second 5,000-rpm, 30-hp spindle has an 8” chuck and 2.55” spindle. Both have full CNC C-axis control for part positioning and contouring with indexing increments of 0.0001 degrees.

Both the upper and lower turrets, as standard, accommodate 12 tools each and have 4” Y-axis travel capability for off-centerline operations. Rotary tool spindles on each turret deliver 6,000 rpm and 7.5 hp for milling and drilling multi-tasking functionality.

The HYPER QUADREX 250 MSY features the MATRIX 2 CNC control. Within the control are both enhanced hardware and software functionalities that make the control easy to use while also delivering high accuracy and increased productivity. Control hardware performance is much faster with higher processing speeds for small increment operation that provides shorter cycle times as well as superior surface finishes.

For continuous unmanned operations, the HYPER QUADREX 250 MSY easily integrates with an optional bar feeder and robot loader, and can be used in conjunction with MTConnect. All Mazak CNC controls are MTConnect compliant and, together, allow users to simplify the monitoring and management of their production systems as well as improve machine tool utilization and throughput.
