Compact Multi-Tasking machine offers processing flexibility and large component capacity
FLORENCE, Ky, Oct. 8, 2013 – At DISCOVER 2013, Mazak showcased its innovative, high value INTEGREX j-400 Multi-Tasking machine that efficiently processes large, complex components. The machine performs 4-axis simultaneous machining with 5-axis tool tip positioning, providing manufacturers with significant advantages in productivity, accuracy and flexibility. The INTEGREX j-400’s main turning spindle with C-axis control features a 12” chuck mounted on a 30-hp, 3,300-rpm integral spindle that generates high levels of torque for effectively tackling even the most demanding metal removal applications. The machine comes standard equipped with a 20-tool magazine to ensure continuous machining operations, while the optional 36 and 72-tool magazines further reduce set-up times and increase machining flexibility.
The machine’s 30-hp, 12,000-rpm milling spindle allows it to achieve 4-axis simultaneous machining and 5-axis tool tip positioning. The spindle indexes in 5-degree increments from –30 degrees to 190 degrees in the B-axis, making O.D. machining possible as well as turning, facing, grooving and threading with the same flash tool. The milling spindle also makes it easy to perform incline machining and all other conventional machining processes. Because of its ample 9.84” Y-axis stroke, the INTEGREX j-400, when compared with a conventional turn/mill slant bed lathe, has a larger machining envelope, better tool reach with minimum interference and more efficient chip evacuation.
Furthermore, the milling spindle can be radially indexed and clamped, enabling the same tool to be used for turning in both forward and reverse directions. And due to its highly rigid machine construction and new high-response servomotors, the INTEGREX j-400 delivers highly repeatable tool tip positioning.
The INTEGREX j-400 incorporates Mazak’s MX Hybrid Roller Guide System for high levels of durability and reliability that result in long-term accuracy. The innovative way system increases vibration dampening, extends tool life, handles higher load capacities and eliminates tramp oil in the coolant by utilizing a greener grease-based lubrication system.
Mazak makes the programming of multiple surfaces on the INTEGREX j-400 easy with its MATRIX NEXUS 2 CNC control. The control allows for both conversational and EIA/ISO programming, and ensures easy programming for C-axis, Y-axis and angle machining. It also provides realistic 3D machining simulations, time study analysis and the Mazak Voice Advisor, which assists operators during setup to make initial operations smoother and safer.
As part of Mazak’s Five Levels of Multi-Tasking, the INTEGREX j-300 is a Level 3 machine – those highlighting independent milling spindle headstocks with B-axis indexing, as well as full Y-axis travels and tool storage magazines. Mazak’s Five Levels of Multi-Tasking allow manufacturers to precisely match machine capabilities to part processing requirements. Machine features and functionalities within the other four levels range from Level 1 with single spindle and rotating tool capabilities and Level 2 with Y-axis off-center machining to Level 4 machines providing full simultaneous 5-axis capability and Level 5 Ultra-Tasking machines with additional specialized machining functions.
